Tree Trunks are Robert Hunter, Sam Lewis and feature Rozi Leyden on backing vocals. They met as musicians in part of a wider scene of independent artists that extends from Francois and the Atlas Mountains to Trash Kit and beyond. Robert and Sam played as part of Rozi's successful solo band, Rozi Plain, while Robert also played drums for Francois and the Atlas Mountains and the Scottish electronic pop act Babe.
Two years ago Robert and Sam starting collaborating, inspired as much by contemporary artists like Jessy Lanza, Jai Paul and Hot Chip as the 'classic' acts they'd always loved like Prince and Arthur Russell. Bringing Rozi on board to help with vocals and lyrics tied the project together, and Tree Trunks was born.
They recorded and mixed these tracks themselves over 18 months in various bedrooms across London, while Nico Marcel (Electrelane) was brought it to help master the songs.
Tree Trunks explore the line where 80s pop meets modern electronic pop; a world of dark dancefloors and ethereal romance, where relationships are eternally falling apart and reforming, and where just one song could turn everything around.
